**Responsibilities**

WNBC-TV is looking for a smart, organized and enthusiastic newsroom leader to join our award-winning team as an Assignment Manager in New York City. Applicants should be difference makers who want to win weather, breaking news and enterprise storytelling for our broadcast and digital platforms. Our Assignment Manager at WNBC must work hard to be first and credible at all times. The successful candidate must have a vision for telling stories with value to the viewer and apply an investigative filter.



Responsibilities



-Manage daily news coverage and operation of the Assignment Desk.

-Develop and implement strategies for effective, efficient and smooth operation of the assignment desk to ensure maximum production efficiency for both broadcast and all digital platforms.

-Generate story ideas through beat calls, social media, wires, websites and contacts throughout the viewing area.

-Attend editorial meetings and actively pitch story ideas and demonstrative live shot opportunities.

-Manage logistics of assigning crews and live gear when needed

-Work with field crews to proactively respond to breaking news, and maximize content of daily news coverage.

-Supervise and schedule assignment editors to ensure strategic coverage goals and objectives are met.

-Maintain contact with various police, business, and government agencies and gather meaningful information for newscasts. Monitor scanners, alerts and apps for breaking news.

-Oversee all story checks, follow-ups and assignments are pursued, communicated and recorded in the desk log.

-Coordinate and fulfill requests with all NBCUniversal partners.

-Show discretion, maturity and composure – especially when under pressure.

-Assist Labor Relations.

-Coach and mentor others.

-Ability to work varying shifts, including nights, overnights, and weekends.

**Qualifications/Requirements**

- 8+ years related assignment desk experience

- 5 years management with a demonstrated ability to oversee people, communicate effectively with an eye on solutions at all times.

- Strong news judgment, ethics and knowledge of legal standards.

- Ability to work in fast-paced environment with daily deadlines and changing priorities.

- Labor relations experience.

- Familiarity with use of social media as news gathering tools.

- Bachelor’s degree
