International Studios also operates NBCUniversal Formats – a global format sales team which represents the international rights to a broad slate of programming, including reality, lifestyle, entertainment and scripted shows produced by NBC, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, Style, Syfy, G4, Carnival, Chocolate, LARK, Lucky Giant, Matchbox, and Monkey Kingdom.

Matchbox Pictures – Business & Legal Affairs Manager

Matchbox Pictures is looking for a Business & Legal Affairs Manager in its Melbourne office (12 months, parental leave cover). The position will involve working across the development, financing and production of feature films, and scripted and un-scripted television, as well as general company business.

As part of the Business & Legal Affairs team, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

• managing contracting and business matters associated with program development;

• drafting and negotiating agreements with commissioning broadcasters, distributors and financiers;

• providing day-to-day support and advice to productions, including contracting key talent, managing compliance matters and legal risk, crew engagement (employment), clearances and post-production;

• matters relating to the promotion and distribution of content, including rights information enquiries;

• assisting with the development and maintenance of group precedents;

• advising on copyright, trade mark, defamation, privacy, and areas of law affecting media content;

• providing advice and updates on broadcasting laws and standards, broadcaster codes of practice, funding agency terms of trade and guidelines, and available screen production incentives;

• maintaining effective relationships with agents, broadcasters, funding agencies and industry bodies.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified lawyer (3+ PQE), with substantive experience in the Australian film and television industry. We are looking for someone who is ethical, conscientious, calm under pressure and above all a good cultural fit for Matchbox.
