**Responsibilities**

Key Responsibilities



Overall this role is key in identifying today the opportunities that will form the backbone of the UPHE Content Group’s slate in five years’ time. They are responsible for finding and/or developing new stories and ideas that will make successful content. Their primary role is to find new talent, cultivate creative relationships in the industry from Talent, writers, Agents, Directors, IP holders amongst others. They will liaise closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the content is developed to its fullest to enable the company to greenlight projects that will be able to maximise profits through a creative distribution strategy that delivers the content to a wide multi-platform audience.



• Actively engage in the wider market in search of new IP/ideas and business opportunities that would fit within the following key genres: Feature Film, Kids & Animation, Documentary, and Special Interest and that can be turned into profitable entertainment with the ability to persuade others to share their vision

• Responsible for coming up with the underlying premise of a production - create treatments and pitches tailored to a wide range of audiences including talent, agents and creatives

• Critically evaluate scripts & treatments and provide insightful critique.

• Work actively on the current development slate of projects across all genres both creatively and also in terms of management of admin and basic finance liaising with internal support functions such as legal & finance team.

• Research and develop new, unique, compelling concepts for distribution across NBCU owned and operated distribution platforms. This may include, for example, supporting the roll-out of new initiatives or windowing exploitation

• Secure necessary rights, select a creative team, produce the development budget and supervise the development process ensuring the subsequent delivery of the material necessary to greenlight the project.

• Aggressively develop, secure, and maintain good relationships with talent to work on potential projects to consider via liaising with agents, keeping abreast of industry and world news, seeking potential adaptive material etc.

• Work closely with the Content Strategy team to monitor market trends and proactively identify commercial opportunities for internal stakeholders to pick up (e.g. DTO projects, SVOD for key genres, etc.)

• Excellent experience in content development in varied genres

• Strong commercial acumen including prior experience interrogating financials and effectively budgeting for developments and productions

• Good contacts and knowledge in the industry with established relationships within all of the major talent agencies, including an extensive producer, director & production house network

• An enthusiasm for and interest in popular entertainment. A passion for film, documentaries, special interest and kids and family content

• An understanding of and the ability to interpret editorial intentions and to contribute to the generation of ideas

• Dynamic & outgoing with strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across functions and at all levels within the organisation and externally.

• Entrepreneurial mind-set – flexible, discreet and good at problem solving

• Excellent communications skills – ability to lead constructive dialogue with sensitivity and tact
