At Fans First media we’re looking for a full-time Washington, DC Copy Editor to join the dynamic editorial team at Rare. Do you proofread your texts? Are you willing to ardently defend the merits of the Oxford comma? If so, we need someone like you.

This editor should excel in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment and demonstrate mastery of the English language. The Rare Copy Editor will be responsible for reviewing posts for various sections of the website and should be just as comfortable editing humor pieces as breaking news. The editor will work closely with full-time and freelance writers to ensure all copy published to Rare is factually accurate, grammatically correct, and in keeping with our specific style guide. Flexibility is key, as this role may require weekend work.

• Edit news coverage, long-form pieces, and short video-based stories quickly
• Add media (videos, photos, Tweets, Vines, GIFs) to posts to enhance stories
• Stay up to date on trending stories in the U.S. and abroad
• Write stories as needed for the Rare site
• Enforce the Rare style guide and provide feedback
• Collaborate with other teams as needed


• Minimum one year experience editing news and/or viral content; combined experience of one year is acceptable
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or related field
• Passion for, and knowledge of, the growing social media landscape
• Tenacious attention to detail with an eye toward clean copy
• Excellent organizational skills and focus
• Strong ability to work independently
• Knowledge of WordPress and PhotoShop preferred
• Familiarity with AP style preferred
