Job Description

The KCCI Creative Services Director is responsible for leading the overall brand messaging and positioning for KCCI, it’s multicast platforms of MeTV and My Des Moines, and the all the associated digital platforms.  Person must be highly creative, organized, a strategic thinker who is aggressive, opportunistic and utilizes station research to deliver goals and grow audience.  Individual must have a proven track record of leadership, an eye for creating exceptional breakthrough creative and must have a proven history of collaborating with station and news management to achieve the common goal of living and delivering the brand.  Simply put, the station is a winner and this position demands a winning personality with a competitive and creative fire.  The individual must also possess the ability to insure the station’s brand is intricately woven throughout all external and internal communication including but not limited to station branded apparel, internal branding, public relations efforts, and more.  Person must be able to execute a strategic marketing plan that considers all of KCCI’s interests insuring that daily topicals, episodics, graphic arts, updated image promotion, outside media, social and digital media all work together to raise awareness.  Included in the responsibilities are community events and public service initiatives. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Managing a department of five individuals including an Assistant Creative Services director, a topical producer, a multicast promotion producer, a graphic artist and a production assistant.
  • Creation of on-air and cross-platform image campaigns, topical promotion, proof-of-performance promos, IDs, news opens, and other production elements.
  • Public service announcements and special event promotion execution are the responsibility of the CSD.
  • Manage KCCI’s social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter insuring the station’s pages are actively promoted and that they are also used as vehicles to promote the station’s on-air and digital presence.
  • Work with the General Manager and News Director to identify daily opportunities for reaching the target audience using multiple platforms.
  • Must have a proven track record of developing large scale image campaigns, including directing, field production, writing, lighting and post-production editing.
  • Plan, purchase and develop outside media as needed.
  • Responsible for the public relations of KCCI insuring the KCCI brand lives in each press release and that we have a strategic PR effort that runs parallel to our marketing strategy.
  • Must have very developed and proven communication skills.
  • Highly collaborative, symbiotic relationship with GM, news director and news department – common goal and team approach.
  • Must be highly organized and strategically focused.
  • Must have an unfailing ability to work under pressure and hit deadlines.
  • Must recognize opportunities that present themselves through breaking news, weather or extended coverage and benefits of watching KCCI.
  • Must have hands-on ability to shoot and edit with state-of-the-art equipment and advanced non-linear editing systems, Photoshop and After Effects.
  • Must have ability to strategically and efficiently “traffic” all creative through Wide Orbit-PRO. Must have ability to interpret ratings and other research for targeted log placement of spots in order to reach desired audiences in the DMA.
  • Must occasionally manage sales-related contests, rules and special giveaways.
  • Must interact and work with network and syndicated programming affiliate marketing representatives including CBS, MeTV, MyNet and others.

Required Skills

Education Requirements:

  • College degree in marketing, broadcasting or a related field are required.

Required Experience

  • Ideal candidate should have previous experience writing and producing break-through creative for a local broadcast affiliate – with specific experience in news marketing.
  • Previous management and leadership experience a plus.
  • A creative vision and overall curiosity are also a big plus.
