The core responsibilities include:

Digital strategy

• Strategic marketing planning for all upcoming films to include management of Universal’s own social media accounts, development of the daily social media calendar and content creation and output, creating and maximising tentpole digital events, including trailer and content launches across all digital platforms, managing digital media planning and buying, leveraging big data and audience research to identify and target relevant demographics for each film and optimising creative materials and partnerships.

• Identifying trends and staying abreast of new developments in the digital space with the objective of creating fresh, relevant and effective marketing initiatives.

• Long term franchise planning: implementing initiatives that grow the studio’s franchises, supporting not only the movie launches but also bringing together other intra-company activities that maintain fanship and buzz between theatrical releases.

Digital and social partnerships

• A strong relationship manager, you will build on your own strong existing partnerships with top digital sites and apps, quickly adapt and build relationships with the key players in entertainment, and nurture new partnerships with a view to creating targeted, impactful and results-driven campaigns to promote our films.

• Proven excellent existing relationships with all the top social media players: Weibo, WeChat, QQ, and extensive existing success in running social campaigns.

• Nurture strong collaborative partnerships with verticals eg MTime, Sina Entertainment, iQiyi, theatrical circuits (eg Wanda) and ticketing partners eg WePiao, Gewara, Maoyan, Taopiaopiao etc.

Digital asset management

• Maximise and localize global assets available for social media, online promotion for all films.

• Careful advance planning and development of materials to meet moving release targets.

• Work with international head office, filmmakers and local creative agencies to create effective China-specific content, including stickers, short form AV, gifs, etc.

Company social media management

• Develop strategic direction, plan and execute a structured and brand enhancing calendar of activities and maintain growth for the UPI Weibo, Minions Weibo and WeChat accounts.


• Identify, brief and manage and social media and digital agencies, to ensure we best possible strategic and results-driven performance.

• Work closely with the Publicity manager to ensure fully coordinated paid/organic campaigns to drive maximum audience engagement and film fanship.

Head Office and Local Team integration

• A critical part of the role is direct and daily contact with the Head Office digital team based in the UK, and the rest of the China marketing team, with particular need to work very closely with the Publicity team to ensure complete campaign coordination, especially with regards to trailer launches, campaign asset management and KOL/partnership management.

Accountability and deliverables

• Regular digital tracking and performance report and analysis: provision of competitive buzz report and translation of insights into action.

• Results-driven activities; set performance targets and metrics for interactions/readers/impressions/shares and downloads for promotional content.

This is a Beijing based full-time position


• Bachelor’s degree

• 5-8 years experience in digital marketing

• Excellent English and Putonghua, spoken and written
