Job Summary

Are you a content metadata expert who also happens to love TV? If so, you might just be the perfect candidate for a new position at NBC.

As the Director of Metadata & Content Operations, you’ll be responsible for establishing, optimizing, and enhancing all video metadata services, solutions, and artwork delivery standards for NBC Entertainment. Your goal: help our fans find their favorite NBC shows faster and easier, wherever and whenever they want to watch them.

This unique position requires you to be a master of metadata supply chain diplomacy; effectively negotiating and collaborating with third party syndication service providers while expertly managing both the technical requirements and creative expectations of internal stakeholders. Your dedication to unifying all teams under the same vision will drive the results needed to feed network programming systems accurately and consistently.

Reporting to the Vice President of Video Distribution & Content Operations and working closely with the Manager of Content Metadata, you’ll serve as the key subject matter expert in all areas associated with metadata display, syndication, and governance. Your diligence in standardizing asset delivery specifications to improve the overall discoverability of NBC shows across platforms will play an instrumental role in advancing NBCUniversal’s positioning within the rapidly evolving digital marketplace.

Essential Responsibilities

+ Manage and maintain video metadata acquisition and syndication standards to approved distribution outlets under strict deadlines and SLAs

+ Drive video metadata specification research, development, and consolidation; adhering to style guidelines, character limits, and asset formatting parameters set forth by key metadata aggregation service providers such as Nielsen/Gracenote & Rovi/TiVo

+ Establish QA/QC protocols working with technology and business partners to regulate, capture, audit, analyze, and improve user­facing metadata experiences on VOD, TVE, and OTT syndication platforms as well as EPG environments

+ Oversee metadata asset supply chain; teaming up with editorial copywriters, video distribution specialists, digital creative leads, and support teams to proactively address all stakeholder demands and concerns

+ Collaborate with design teams to define and continuously refine artwork delivery specifications for series key art and episodic imagery

+ Compile and institute technical requirements driving efficiencies and enhancements to existing metadata workflows while researching emerging trends and solutions to improve overall speed­to­market

+ Create, maintain and revise as needed; process maps, user stories, workflows, and standard operating procedures

+ Provide subject matter expertise; focused on promoting metadata awareness by evangelizing the benefits improved standards have on helping to address KPIs

+ Assist with additional projects as required by the Vice President of Video Distribution & Content Operations


Basic Qualifications:

+ Bachelor's degree in Digital Media, Communications, Computer Science or equivalent discipline

+ Minimum 10 years of experience managing metadata schema, taxonomy, ontology, program hierarchy, programing types, genres, and data/program classifications

+ Minimum 10 years of experience working with metadata specifications (e.g. CableLabs) as well as aggregation services Gracenote, Rovi, FYI Television and/or Titan TV

+ 5+ years of experience researching and consulting on MVPD, OTT, and SVOD publishing procedures, administration protocols, and industry trends

+ 5+ years of technical experience with database management and API data delivery specifications & workflows

+ Minimum 2 years of project management experience with methodologies such as Agile, Scrum and collaboration products such as JIRA, Lighthouse and Confluence

+ Minimum 2 years of experience overseeing digital content QA and QC governance

+ Expertise with consumer apps on traditional platforms and digital products

+ Expertise with digital artwork deliverables including, but not limited to: photography, key art, and logo treatments as well as their related file formats (e.g. RAW, PNG, JPG, EPS)

+ Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop

+ Working knowledge of metadata related programming/markup languages and syntaxes including, but not limited to: XML, JavaScript, JSON

+ Working knowledge of OVP services such as Anvato, thePlatform, Brightcove, and Kaltura

+ Practical experience with SEO algorithms, processes, and techniquesEligibility Requirements:

+ Television entertainment industry experience preferred

+ Excellent and effective communication & collaboration skills

+ Expertise distilling highly technical terminology into basic requirements & concepts

+ Proactive problem solver with the ability to prioritize and concurrently handle multiple, time sensitive requests within a high pressure environment

+ Working knowledge of NLE tools Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, and Avid Media Composer

+ Strategic knowledge & familiarity with social media platforms and services such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram

+ Experience working with Drupal open source CMS

+ Experience using Aspera, Signiant, and other enterprise­grade file transfer services/agents

+ Understanding of telecommunication standards and specifications including, but not limited to: DOCSIS, CMTS, DSL, and IP

+ Familiarity with data insights and metrics tracking tools Domo, Adobe SiteCatalyst, and Google Analytics

+ Familiarity with ad serving platforms and solutions (Freewheel, DFP, etc.) as well as DAI

+ Familiarity with MAM systems

+ Creative problem solver with a willingness to try new things when all else fails
