**Responsibilities**

What would you do at Fandango?

At Fandango, we have a long history of agile development, continuous

integration, and weekly releases. We want to optimize for both speed of delivery

and confidence in correctness. We want to automate the testing of our code,

infrastructure, and end user experience. We also want to know when automation

should be supplemented with human testing and how to balance the two

effectively. We want to maintain a BDD/TDD culture and instill the importance of

quality at every step of software delivery.

To make this happen, we are looking for a strong Director of Quality Engineering

devoted to the predictable and continuous delivery of high quality software. This

person has the strong technical and managerial skills to manage, mentor and

grow a team that cares deeply about how are customers interact with our

products.

A great candidate for this role will be able to

1) Assess our existing delivery processes, tools, metrics, and testing

frameworks; adopt what works; and change what doesn’t

2) Manage software developers, quality engineers (SDETs) and black box QA

testers toward continual improvement in our product quality, speed of

delivery and confidence in correctness.

3) Create virtuous feedback cycles between developers, testers, product

owners and customer support.

As the Director of Quality Engineering and Assurance, your responsibilities would

include:

● Coordinating the activities of Quality Assurance and Quality Engineering

(SDET) resources to optimize for software quality, speed of delivery and

confidence of delivery

● Working directly with the VPs of Engineering and Chief Architect to develop

a vision for how to iteratively improve software quality and delivery

● Developing an execution plan to turn that vision into a reality

● Planning and coordinating cross-team efforts to move the vision forward

● Managing your team in developing reliable and reusable testing and quality

assurance processes and platforms for use across the enterprise

● Promulgating and evangelizing patterns and practices for:

○ Code management (branching and merging) strategies

○ Testing strategies at multiple levels (unit, functional, integration,

regression, etc)

○ Environment management

○ Code quality metrics (test coverage, complexity thresholds, etc.)

○ Performance testing and tools

○ Build tools

○ Release processes

● Working with the Systems Reliability team to integrate production feedback

into the release process with such practices as

○ Blue/Green, canary and incremental deployments

○ Release validation and automatic rollback

○ Symptom based alerting

○ Customer experience and customer support feedback

What you have done:

● Bachelor’s in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent work experience

● 8+ years of professional engineering experience with progressive complexity and scope

● 4+ years as a Director, Manager, Team Lead, or in a Cross-Functional role

● 4+ years working on software testing and software test automation

● 2+ years working on software build and delivery pipelines

● 1+ years working closely with Operations teams (DevOps)

**Desired Characteristics**

What you know:

● Expert with one or more test automation frameworks and tools such as Selenium,

NightwatchJS, TestComplete, TestRails, SauceLabs, Tosca, etc.

● Expert with one or more API / service testing tools such as Postman, SoapUI, vRest, etc.

● Experience with one or more build/release systems such as Jenkins, TravisCI, Bamboo,

CirlceCI, TeamCity, etc

● Familiar with Test-Driven and Behavior-Driven Development

● How to develop managers and team leads to grow and scale your team

● Experienced with both Cloud (AWS or similar) and Data-Center hosted systems

● Experienced with Git including workflows such as GitFlow and GitHubFlow

● Familiar with Windows and Linux

● Familiar with performance and load-testing technologies such as JMeter, Apache Bench,

WRK, Seige, Gatling, Bees with Machine Guns, SOASTA, etc

● Understands Agile software delivery, including Scrum and Kanban

● Understands Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and Single Piece Flow (this

probably means you have read Continuous Delivery by Jez Humble and David Farley)
