**Role Summary:**

The Director, Story Department, oversees all functions of the department and is responsible for numerous creative, legal and organizational tasks as well as managing a team of 15. Such responsibilities include overseeing studio Coverage, managing library properties, conducting book tracking, providing creative assessment of material, and overseeing all development databases.

**Essential Responsibilities:**

+ Manage a team of employees including IATSE union Story Readers.

+ Maintain and manage all development databases. Have a basic technical understanding of systems as well as an in-depth creative understanding of the content of said systems.

+ Oversee incoming material including new submissions and project drafts. Ensure material is recorded accurately and creatively assessed. Oversee Weekend Read distribution.

+ Provide creative feedback on submitted materials and projects when appropriate.

+ Ensure coverage is of the highest quality and is a helpful resource for the Development Department. Inform Story Analysts of studio priorities, project updates and script feedback to ensure coverage is as relevant as possible. Creatively discuss material with Story Analysts.

+ Manage all internal and external remake/sequel rights inquiries. Maintain a database of all rights information. Field miscellaneous project-specific inquiries regarding library properties.

+ Serve as in-house point on book-to-film tracking. Monitor publishing deals and sales, maintain bestseller list grids, read reviews, and parse NY-based book scout memos. Facilitate weekly discussion of key books, and serve as support to all development executives in assessing book material.

+ Conduct in-house research on projects and hire professional researchers when appropriate.

+ Help manage the writing credit determination process, particularly as it relates to the applicable materials and creative recommendation. Internally help navigate arbitrations when applicable.


Basic Qualifications:

+ Minimum 4 year college degree

+ Minimum 5 years relevant experience working in Film Development & Production

+ Strong familiarity with the development process and world

+ Experience critically analyzing material, both written and verbal

+ Knowledge of key players including writers, directors, actors, agents, and producers

+ Knowledge of and experience working in Book-to-Film

+ Diplomatic and able to cultivate strong internal and external relationships

+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

+ Strong organizational skillsEligibility Requirements:
