What’s the subtle difference between “lost and found” clumps and far too clumpy? What does a director mean when they ask for graphic cloth folds, wispier hair, or just to make the ropes have more “Whoosh!” Do you have a passion for animation? Do you have the desire to plus existing images and make the great absolutely fantastic? If you’re a 3D CG generalist with a focus on visual effects and animation, have less than 2 years of industry experience and are looking for opportunities . . . read on!

**The Program**



DreamWorks is excited to announce that we are currently accepting resumes & demo reels for the **2018 Character Effects Trainee Program** . The goal of this program is to train character effects artists and developers in the techniques and practices of creating art-directable simulations for feature animation. A successful character effects artist is able to juggle multiple simulations; has the ability to plus amazing looking animation to new heights; and has the ability to work within a production team and seek advice from experts.



During the course of a 10 week curriculum, Trainees are instructed by award-winning artists and technologists while immersed in a training environment that replicates our actual productions. Past graduating CFX Trainees have gone on to successful careers in visual effects.

**Trainees will learn how to:**



+ work at a world-class studio using cutting-edge tools



+ apply hands-on experience in a production pipeline with complex dependencies



+ strengthen your eye for motion



+ interpret feedback and apply notes from creative leadership



+ work in a collaborative environment



+ apply critical thinking to hit an artistic target

+ conduct yourself in a professional production environment

**Desired Characteristics**

**What We’re Looking For**

We’re looking for recent graduates in the fields of Computer Science, Visual Arts, or Animation and who can demonstrate significant work in many disciplines, such as programmers who animate or animators who can write their own programs. We want people who can imagine cool new ideas by combining disparate forms and approaches, and then build beautiful images from them.



+ **Application Preferences:**



+ **Graduation** or **certification** from a university program in **Visual Arts, Animation** or **Computer Science** , with an emphasis on **Computer Graphics** .



+ We will accept applications from **recent graduates** or individuals with **less than 2 years of industry experience** .



+ Whatever your area of study, you must be passionate about animation, dedicated, resourceful, an excellent communicator, and a team player. The ideal CFX Trainee has knowledge of computer graphics principles & theory, possesses critical thinking skills, and has had exposure to third party tools, such as Houdini/Maya.



+ **Submission Requirements:**



+ Your **resume** , link to your **portfolio and/or reel** , and a **cover letter** .



+ A link to your website or blog indicating technical skills such as programming, math and relevant coursework is helpful as well.



+ **Portfolio / Demo reel Guidelines (2 minutes or less in duration):**



+ Examples of visual effects simulations such as cloth, hair, fur, feathers, etc.



+ Examples of simulation or motion setups such as character rigs, ropes, and chains



+ Projects that demonstrate your creative eye in animation such as rigging, modeling, or character animation



+ Visual results of coding or computer graphics-related projects



+ Examples of your traditional art, such as photography, sculpture, figure drawing and/or painting
