Are you a total news hound? Do you live and breathe every new detail, tidbit, and development? Then we’ve got the job for you. NBC News digital is looking for an experienced news pro to be the real time Editorial Lead for our social and emerging platforms team. This person has impeccable news judgment and news standards—usually the first to see a big story, know its importance, and start ringing alarm bells. They'll help oversee our editorial direction on all social platforms--from Facebook to Snapchat to whatever's next—coordinating with digital leadership and the rest of the news division to ensure we’re on top of everything. At every moment. On every platform. The ideal candidate isn’t afraid to stand up and yell across the newsroom when the next big story breaks. Oh and if you want a 9 to 5 job, look somewhere else. This person is ALWAYS on, and loves it.

Job Duties

+ Lead the editorial direction of NBC News on social and emerging platforms, making sure we are on every new development, appropriately reporting on platforms best suited to that story or development.

+ Be the main liaison between the social and emerging platform teams with the rest of digital and the wider news division, its reporting units (the assignment desk, social desk, investigations, business, etc.), as well as legal and standards.

+ Work closely to train all editors and producers on the S&E Teams on best practices and newsgathering tools.

+ Coordinate the distribution of reported and non-reportable information.

+ Work closely with the social lead to ensure timely and accurate reporting across social platforms.

+ Work closely with the senior producers of our emerging platforms team to accurately and quickly report information on those platforms.


Basic Qualifications

+ Minimum of 4 years of experience working for a major news organization, preferably in a digital or newsgathering role.

+ Through knowledge of social media and messaging platforms

+ Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferredAdditional Job Requirements
