The Position

The EVP, Strategic Insights and Analytics, Ad Sales will lead, develop and execute an organization-wide strategy focused on transforming NBCU Ad Sales into a best-in-class research organization. This will include being a senior business advisor to NBCU’s Ad Sales leadership and the overall organization, by providing groundbreaking and cross-platform thought leadership to position NBCU as an industry leader. This role will be leading a research organization at NBCU will full portfolio oversight across all brands and platforms. This is a lynchpin role working across Ad Sales and the entire NBCU organization to have an impact on NBCU’s O&O portfolio as well as its ad-supported distribution relationships, digital partnerships and cross platform initiatives.

This person will be a visible and proactive leader in the research community and represent NBCU’s interests in the broader media and marketing community. He/She will use insights and analytics to drive innovation, stay ahead of shifts in audiences and consumer behavior, as well as develop tomorrow’s media measurement and monetization models with a focus on an increasingly digital, non-linear and date-enabled video ecosystem. The role will work across the Ad Sales portfolio and manage all existing research activities with the goal of improving current efforts as well as to identify and create new opportunities for growth. This role supports the sales efforts of NBCUniversal TV and Digital Ad Sales, Marketing, Audience Studio and Client Partnerships teams by providing primary research, audience measurement, consumer insights, marketplace positioning and strategic research development while also providing NBCUniversal with the data, analysis and insights required for effective revenue maximization.

Responsibilities for the EVP, Strategic Insights and Analytics include, but are not limited to:

• In partnership with key stakeholders, lead the creation of an organization-wide research plan focused on consistently generating client, consumer, and market insights that will serve as a foundation for NBCU’s strategic initiatives. Share these insights with sales leadership and the broader organization, thus, taking a leadership role in creating points of view on topics such as measurement, monetization, digital and data-driven initiatives

• Utilize knowledge and understanding of consumer behavior and media usage in today's evolving landscape to proactively develop actionable client-focused consumer and brand insights in response to an accountability/ROI focused marketplace

• Lead the development and ongoing evolution of NBCUniversal’s cross-platform audience positioning, including approaches to audience measurement, outcomes-based measurement and ad effectiveness metrics as well as implications for new currencies to more effectively serve advertising clients and drive new monetization opportunities for NBCU

• Lead the growth of a world class research team through engaging and compelling research studies involving the use of deep internal and external analytics, syndicated data and primary research. Strong collaboration with Research counterparts to create insights to develop cross platform research that conveys the value of NBCUniversal’s portfolio

• Create and implement a standardized talent strategy across the research organization. Coordinate with sales verticals on hiring and performance reviews to ensure consistent standards are applied. Identify efficiencies and upgrade IT and research tools across NBCU (e.g., real-time analytics, self-serve reporting, etc.)

• Excel in establishing internal and external relationships and providing key insights, thought leadership and advice on cutting edge media research issues

• Effectively represent NBCU as a thought leader and innovator at industry conferences and events


The Person

• Minimum 15 years of experience in Consumer Insights and Analytics in a media company, a digital agency, or at a research vendor, partnering with media companies and agencies

• Minimum 10 years managing and leading a team

• Industry evangelist and sought after presenter who has delivered keynote speeches among C-Level executives at large marketing focused conferences and industry events

• Experience leading trade councils and influencing policy and standards across the industry

• Expert knowledge of industry research tools including but not limited to Nielson Media Research, MRI, Simmons and Online applications

• Business and Analytical Acumen: Ability to derive deep insights from vast quantities of data and understand business implications of results and trends. Deep seated quantitative and qualitative research experience required

• Benchmarking and Business Intelligence: Expert knowledge in benchmarking principles and methodologies of business/industry practices

• Expert ability to obtain and analyze market / competitive information to help guide business decisions; strong experience using research to build relevant, business-critical points-of-view

• Functional knowledge of digital measurement platforms like Omniture and competitive tracking services including ComScore

• Ability to provide thoughtful strategic insights to senior leadership at NBCUniversal and translate into successful business strategies

• Strong knowledge of the multi-platform media and content space including existing NBCU brands, competitors, emerging technologies, cultural trends and current challenges

• High-level experience helping to inform management of brands and/or content

• Strong leader and persuasive communicator with a vision. Proven ability to self-motivate, work independently as well as collaboratively to motivate and inspire a team.

• Excellent writing and verbal presentation skills

• A Bachelors’ degree from an accredited and recognized institution of higher learning is required with an advanced degree (MA, MBA, PhD or equivalent) ideal
