The Position:

The Head of VR will work alongside the chairman of the studio’s team to develop and execute a comprehensive vision for Universal Pictures’ VR/AR content that aligns with the studio’s existing businesses and film slate. The ideal candidate will have extensive VR / AR industry and technical knowledge paired with strong business acumen. The Head of VR will be tasked with setting up and executing the strategy of maximizing the studio’s IP across content categories (360 video, interactive, etc.) and distribution channels (mobile, LBVR, etc.).


• Create and manage a slate plan for VR / AR projects across the studio, aligning content plans among Production, Marketing, Gaming, Home Entertainment, and other groups.

• Collaborate with Distribution, Strategy and Technology teams to develop, execute and monetize a clear distribution strategy for VR content, including platforms, windowing, and exclusivity decisions.

• Work directly with third parties (in conjunction with other internal stakeholders) to draft and execute agreements with funders, technology companies, creative teams, and other potential VR / AR partners.

• Track and translate upcoming VR / AR trends into specific studio initiatives and educate studio executives on these opportunities.

• Build a vision for how VR / AR will improve production processes, create immersive consumer experiences, and continue to push the studio to innovate in other ways years into the future.


• 2+ years working within the VR / AR marketplace.

• 7+ years as a strategy or business development executive.

**Desired Characteristics**

• Strong passion for innovative storytelling and emerging technologies.

• Deep understanding of VR / AR technology across the value chain (HMDs, cameras, software, engines, etc.) and view of where those technologies are likely to go in the future.

• Extensive relationships within the film production and VR / AR community in order to source partnership opportunities.
