SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting all of Technical Services and other divisions across UO with proficient operation of heavy equipment utilizing equipment such as the Cat Loader, Cat Extended Boom, and Cat Back Hoe. Performs proper rigging skills for loading, unloading, and transportation of large specimen trees, and other equipment and materials. Other activities include the operation and transport of large pumps, generators, ride vehicles, ride track, and related facility and attraction apparatus. They are regularly called on to coordinate the field tasks associated with special projects involving demolition of structures and earth.


+ Operate heavy equipment which includes the ability to excavate using shoring, apply straps and slings to loads being rigged, back float gravel and soil for fine grading, lift and place irregular objects, and maneuver equipment in all directions in tight spaces.

+ Perform rigging of various objects for proper lifting and transport.

+ Perform project coordination involving the use of heavy equipment.

+ Provide correct hand signals for heavy equipment operation and rental cranes to insure safe operation and to protect UO’s assets.

+ Oversee heavy equipment repair and maintenance to insure safe operation.

+ Submit paperwork for excavation permits and monitors heavy equipment/ vehicle job logs.

+ Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policy, procedures, training and Team Member involvement activities.

+ Perform other duties as assigned.

SCOPE: Responsible for the safe operation all heavy equipment proficiently; provides support to all departments resort wide in the use of heavy equipment.



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

Consistent attendance is a job requirement.


+ High School diploma or GED Preferred.


+ 7-10 years’ heavy equipment operation required; equivalent combination of education and experience.


+ Valid Florida driver license required to operate company vehicles.

+ Annual Training and Certification is required for all of the following provided by Universal Orlando: Caterpillar Loader, Caterpillar Extended Boom Lift, Caterpillar Backhoe-Loader, and JCB.


While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:

+ Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) stand for prolonged periods; talk; hear audible alarms, voice commands with background noise; use hands and fingers to grip, pinch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; work at heights for prolonged periods of time, including heights with or without railings or over open pits greater than 4 feet; balance; reach, pull, push with hands and arms above head; reach, pull, push with hands and arms below head; use close vision with or without corrective lens (clear vision at 20 inches or less); use distance vision with or without corrective lens (clear vision at 20 feet or more); use color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); use peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); use depth perception (vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); use ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus while in changing light conditions, e.g. sunshine to indoor or dark conditions); work in varied light conditions including low or diminished lighting; work in an environment with flashing lights, including strobe lamps; maintain alertness and attentiveness up to 4 hours while working varying hours; maintain concentration/focus (e.g., ability to interpret the work environment and make decisions on predetermined operating policies and procedure); use ability to smell.

+ Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) repeat motions more than twice per minute; lift up to 50 pounds with control; push up to 50 pounds with control.

+ Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) sit and/or walk for prolonged periods; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; work in an environment subject to vibrations; repetitively use an input device-a keyboard or mouse-in a steady manner; work in small or tight spaces.
