**Responsibilities**

Job Duties



+ Leading TODAY Digital’s afternoon news and trending coverage in a fast-paced newsroom, together with a morning counterpart.

+ Assigning, editing and writing content that maximizes buzz and social reach, leading rather than chasing trending coverage across platforms.

+ Driving the daily conversation with fresh takes and high-bar filtering of viral “noise.”

+ Creating trending and pop culture content across sections, including lifestyle areas like Style, Health, Food, Parenting and Home.

+ Help manage TODAY’s social presence on Facebook and Twitter, posting callouts, content; scheduling posts; monitoring audience response.

+ Running cross-platform projects that may have text and multimedia elements on air, online and on social and newsletter platforms.

+ Monitoring breaking news stories and audience appetite and responding with a take or angle relevant to our brand, from wrangling original essays to spotting breakouts worthy of standalone headlines.

+ Working closely with broadcast bookers, producers and correspondents to tell stories across the brand’s platforms in additive and not duplicative ways; translating show segments into digital wins.

+ Planning content for future events; maintaining editorial calendars.



**Qualifications/Requirements**

Basic Qualifications



+ 3-5 years of experience in an editorial role in the digital space

+ A gut instinct for a good story and quick decisiveness on angles and assignments.

+ Experience posting to social platforms, including Facebook and Twitter.

+ A nerd-like understanding of how stories are shared and consumed differently across digital, social and mobile platforms.

+ The ability to use analytics to help guide story selection.

+ A portfolio of skills: Strong and fast writing and editing; clever and SEO-friendly headlining; light multimedia skills (resizing images, creating social videos).Additional Job Requirements

+ A mentoring spirit despite this not being a management role.

+ Appreciation for TODAY’s broad range of topics and personalities — from hard news to entertainment to lifestyle, celebrities and newsmakers to ordinary individuals, with a good grasp of topics and stories of high interest to women and young families — is required. Enthusiasm for TV is a must.
