International Studios’ UK-based production companies include: Carnival, maker of The Last Kingdom for BBC2 and creator of the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning drama sensation Downton Abbey, one of the UK’s biggest TV exports of all time; Monkey Kingdom, which specialises in entertainment programmes and produces the hit UK reality series Made in Chelsea; Chocolate Media, a factual/entertainment production company; Lucky Giant, a comedy label and maker of the forthcoming series Quacks for the BBC; and Working Title Television, a joint venture with Working Title Films’ Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, producer of shows such as London Spy for the BBC and You, Me and the Apocalypse for Sky.

International Studios announced the founding of Heyday Television in 2015, a joint venture with award winning film producer David Heyman (Harry Potter, Gravity, Paddington) which is intended to produce premium, long-form scripted programming for both UK and US markets.

International Studios has a first look deal with Hardy Son & Baker (led by Tom Hardy, an international film actor, and his producing partner, Dean Baker) and owns Tellycopter, a research and development resource that sits alongside its production companies.

Outside the UK, NBCUniversal International Studios owns Australia-based Matchbox Pictures, producers of critically-acclaimed drama series The Slap, and co-owns LARK Productions in Canada, producer of long-running procedural Motive and Real Housewives of Vancouver.

International Studios also operates NBCUniversal Formats – a global format sales team which represents the international rights to a broad slate of programming, including reality, lifestyle, entertainment and scripted shows produced by NBC, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, Style, Syfy, G4, Carnival, Chocolate, LARK, Lucky Giant, Matchbox, and Monkey Kingdom. The role is in the central Business and Legal Affairs team of the International Studios group, reporting to the VP Business and Legal Affairs, Corporate and International. It will primarily support the VP with a particular focus on international distribution and co-financing deals, corporate structures, international financing structures as well as other general commercial arrangements required across the division.


- Distribution: negotiation and drafting of the distribution agreements required for each programme produced by the entities within the Studios group (including Working Title Television, Lark (Canada) and Heyday TV). Responsibility for communicating key details of these distribution agreements and rights to other parts of the team as needed including the central rights team in LA

- Co-financing deals: negotiation of, drafting and review of investment/co-production/distribution deals with third parties including the key third party documentation and any and all ancillary documents required (e.g. completion checklists, deliverables lists)

- International financing structures: investigating and summarising a variety of financial structures available to the group including researching tax credits available in various jurisdictions and their corresponding criteria in order to be able to draw up lists of pros and cons.

- Corporate/corporate finance work: assisting with any joint ventures, acquisitions, loans, preferred share investments and other corporate transactions. In connection with any corporate transaction, such work would include leading on the due diligence, managing the suite of transaction documents, tracking the various negotiation positions at each key stage and assisting with the negotiation and drafting of ancillary documentation. On an ongoing basis, assisting with the maintenance of user friendly summaries of our key corporate deals and communication of terms within the group as needed.

- Net Receipts/MAGR: the above will require an in depth understanding of the operation of our Net Receipts / MAGR definitions and distribution waterfalls and the way in which they differ and interrelate for both companies and individuals on any particular show

- General commercial arrangements including (i) assisting with internal licences to facilitate the flow of distribution, music publishing and other required rights internally within the NBC group (ii) dealing with a variety of property and lease issues which arise across the International Studios group (iii) assisting with the drafting of internal executive producer deals as needed (iv) assisting with first look and distribution agreements with independent production companies and/or independent talent and (v) a variety of rights acquisition agreements (e.g. acquisition of new formats)

- Analysis of rights reviews particularly from NBCU’s rights team in LA and advice on underlying rights, copyright and other intellectual property issues, chain of title and clearance matters both in the context of UK and US rights-holders. Maintenance of an ongoing resource document summarising the status of all such rights enquiries.

- Trademark policy and litigation: assisting the VP to develop policy for these areas and tracking progress on such matters even when handled by lawyers in other parts of the wider group

- Compliance: assisting the VP with the various compliance processes required to be kept in place and to be rolled out across the team.

- Qualified lawyer with ideally with post qualification experience of corporate work and/or IP licensing

- Experience gained in a leading law firm or multinational company with an international outlook.

- Strong educational background


- Ability to work as a productive team member in legal, commercial and finance environment

- Strong drafting skills and meticulous attention to detail essential.

- Ability to work through and understand of complex financial and corporate structures

- Versatile and enthusiastic to gain in depth understanding both internationally and in the UK

- Resourceful, outgoing, intellectually curious and eager to take on new challenges in a demanding environment
