Job Description

Hearst Television seeks an editorial leader to oversee the creation and curation of content in a daily news cycle. The perfect candidate loves news and culture at the speed of the Internet; loves to experiment with digital video formats; is a native to social platforms; and knows how to build digital audiences. They have managed small teams and worked in roles in which they were making daily editorial decisions.

Hearst Television is a division of Hearst. and owns 30 television stations in 26 local markets across the United States. This role would oversee two centralized teams at the corporate level, working to support the television stations and to produce content for a national audience. This position is located in New York and reports to the Chief Digital Content Officer of Hearst Television.

Job Duties:

  • Oversee two editorial teams, with some remote employees
  • Manage daily editorial workflow
  • Build an audience for a national social video brand
  • Review and give direction on written, graphical, and video content
  • Develop a content calendar of regular opportunities
  • Collaborate with HTV markets during large breaking news events or local events of national interest
  • Identify great local stories that can resonate with national audiences
  • Produce great national stories for local audiences

Required Skills

  • Strong news judgment
  • Must be highly informed about current events and pop culture
  • Ability to work collaboratively with digital and broadcast teams
  • Has a keen eye for stories that will resonate on digital platforms
  • Video editing experience is a plus
  • A strong work ethic, collaborative style, and sharp communication skills are essential for this position
  • Loves to experiment creatively, develop new formats for storytelling
  • Preferably Bachelors degree or greater in journalism, film, or related experience

Required Experience

  • Preferably 5-7 years prior experience in digital editorial
  • Preferably 1-2 years managing teams
