This role is for a reporter and editor to work for CNBC Asia’s digital team. He/she will write and cover a range of global and Asian stories centred on markets, finance and economics. Those pieces will include short news analysis and long form features with tight deadlines for CNBC.com.

Additionally, he/she will periodically be asked to manage the news flow for CNBC.com: monitoring events using various tools including social media, communicating and coordinating with the TV news desk, assigning stories to reporters, editing copy, and ranking items to CNBC.com based on their newsworthiness and relevance to the global CNBC audience.



• Write proprietary stories about markets, finance and economics based on news flow, proprietary reporting and comments from CNBC television interviews

• Interview analysts, economists, fund managers and company executives for stories

• Write background features or special reports on a regular basis in a crisp, compelling and thorough manner

• React to breaking news with the ability to quickly compose an account of the facts, and then to thoughtfully push a story forward with analysis and reporting

• Stay abreast of the markets, corporate news, and macroeconomic developments, including reading analyst reports to come up with and pitch story ideas

• Helping to oversee the daily Asia markets story, including suggesting to the markets writer what should be included in updates, and occasionally filling in for that writing as needed

• Periodically oversee and select stories for the U.S. and international home pages as a backup for the regular homepages editor and on approximately half a dozen weekends each year

• Copy edit stories, slideshows and videos


• Understanding and knowledge of the content and subject material covered by CNBC

• Strong interest and knowledge of financial markets, economics, geopolitics and the leading players in the world of business

• 3-5 years’ experience of working for a leading wire service or business news outlet

• Excellent news instincts with the ability to come up with story ideas, headlines and interesting angles

• Strong copy-editing skills and news judgment to oversee a website

• Ability to work in a team and across all departments and locations, ensuring a smoothly running web site that is 100 percent accurate

• Excellent verbal communication skills, coupled with strong research and writing skills

• Demonstrated self-starter, strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task confidently

• Flexible, with the willingness to undertake the shift work associated with a 24-hour news operation

• Fluency in English to native standard

• Experience working in content management systems
