Job Description

WGAL-TV Hearst Television’s NBC affiliate in Lancaster, PA has an immediate need for a full-time Master Control/Operations Technician who is self-motivated, detail oriented, and a team player with strong interpersonal skills.  Candidate will be responsible for monitoring multiple air channels, acquiring, ingesting and preparing content, executing playlists, maintaining regulatory compliance, assuring quality control of on air product, and documenting transmission events.  The successful applicant may learn to operate studio cameras, teleprompter, technical directing and audio operations for live news broadcasts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Recording, segmentation, and playback of long form programming
  • Setup of microwave and satellite feeds for news and programming
  • Monitoring and taking readings of the main television transmitter and translator
  • Maintains program and transmitter logs
  • Follow FCC monitoring and EAS procedures
  • Reports equipment issues and transmission discrepancies
  • Monitoring and operation of station automation system that controls the on air switching
  • This person is responsible for the operation of the equipment used to produce our newscasts
  • The applicant hired will be working very closely with the News Department and will interact with producers and talent.

Required Skills

  • Applicants must be reliable and punctual
  • Can work flexible hours and shifts including holidays and weekends
  • Excellent attention to details; strong computer skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Successful applicant will be a strong self-starter, team player, and goal oriented
  • Knowledge of ENPS and VizRT graphics a plus
  • Ability to learn specialized software applications
  • Aptitude for operating electronic equipment for broadcast and production requirements


  • Technical school or completion of college level technical courses a plus, or equivalent work experience.
  • Military training and experience in related field will be considered.

Required Experience

  • The ability to rapidly respond properly to issues that unexpectedly arise is necessary
  • Must have computer and software experience
  • Prior exposure to television station operations and newscast production a plus
  • Related military experience will be considered.
