**About Us** NBCUniversal is launching a new Telemundo-owned station in Washington, D.C. This project will expand NBC Washington / WRC-TV’s news staff with a new team of Spanish-speaking and bilingual journalists to launch the new station. Both news teams will serve local Spanish- and English-speaking viewers in the greater Washington, D.C. region. The new Telemundo station team will work closely with WRC-TV’s team members in the existing facility that is home to NBC Washington.

NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations is the division of NBCUniversal that includes 30 NBC and Telemundo local television stations, a regional news network and their associated websites and digital platforms, as well as a group of out-of-home properties, a production company, an in-house marketing and promotions company and two national multicast networks, COZI TV and TeleXitos. The local stations, which can be viewed in 37 percent of U.S. homes and in Puerto Rico, produce and deliver their local communities compelling and unique local news, real-time weather forecasts, consumer and investigative reports and entertainment programming across all platforms to help keep their English and Spanish-speaking audiences informed anytime and anywhere.

The News Director is responsible for the overall performance of the Telemundo Washington, DC news department across multiple media platforms. Responsibilities include:

Job Duties

+ Provide leadership and drive strategy for news and content professionals, driving culture of creativity and excellence in a multi-platform environment

+ Ensure newscasts are well conceived and provide high quality coverage, accuracy, integrity in all multi-media platforms

+ Execute strategy for continued growth for news and information on the website and mobile applications

+ Work closely with the VP of News, Sales, Creative Services, Programming and other content departments to further multi-platform opportunities and support Telemundo branding and programming initiatives

+ Create cohesive standards for all aspects of the on-air presentation of content for all shows, in coordination with the brand

+ Manage and develop news and content personnel and identify future hires

+ Establish performance goals and guidelines

+ Oversee the evaluation and performance appraisal process across the content organization

+ Coach and develop staff to work and grow in a multiplatform environment

+ Drive culture of creativity, excellence and performance

+ Enthusiastically promote management initiatives

+ Develop and maintain a working relationship with the Research Director to analyze performance and identify trends

+ Manage the quality of all newsgathering, production, news programming and presentation

+ Oversee day-to-day coverage, big story, breaking news and sweeps planning with consideration of payroll, staffing, field, and news operations to meet established goals and objectives at the highest standard of integrity


Basic Qualifications

+ Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the following areas: Assistant News Director, Executive Producer, or Managing Editor at a broadcast station in a mid to large market

+ A minimum of 5 years’ experience in content creation for news and information website

+ Bilingual (English/Spanish) both written and verbal

+ Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field and/or equivalent work experience

+ Must be willing to work in Washington, D.C.

+ Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

+ Must be at least 18 years of age

+ Be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required

+ Must have a valid driver’s license

+ Experience and success in coaching, leading and motivating a team of employees

+ Ability to think “out of the box” and outside of traditional journalistic and news norms regarding use of technology, revenue generation, customer integration and multi-platform approaches for Local Media

+ Proven ability to develop and convey organizational vision at all levels

+ Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, content driven, technology intensive environment

+ Experience preparing departmental budgets, developing and presenting strategic plan

+ Solid technical expertise across emerging multi-media platforms

+ Experience utilizing and analyzing market research

+ Experience preparing and presenting in front of large audiences

+ Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws impacting newsroom operations

+ Knowledgeable about FCC rules and laws pertaining to news broadcasting in multi-media platforms and employment and labor regulations

+ Strong organizational skills

+ Strong writing and producing skills

+ Ability to work under tight deadlines

+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

+ Must be a fierce competitor who plays to win
