Job Overview

WCSC Television, the #1 station and award-winning CBS affiliate, has an immediate opening for a News Operations Manager in Charleston, South Carolina.  This position will also include responsibilities to oversee and manage the Assignment Desk.    


We are looking for a natural leader who has a command over assignments.  The right candidate will help BREAK stories and assist in growing our team of journalists.  The best candidate will have good contacts among newsmakers and a demonstrated ability to work relationships and manage people on the phone and in person to smoothly accomplish multiple stories each shift.


Candidate will have a strong attention to detail and be comfortable multi-tasking. We are seeking a candidate with strong managerial skills and a working technical knowledge of a multi-platform newsroom operation. This person will oversee the day-to-day on-air execution and operations of our content department, including the Assignment Desk. 


The right candidate will assist in the development, implementation, and training processes of new and existing systems.  Familiarity with the news operation production process, logistics, non-linear edit systems, ENPS, ENG, SNG newsgathering and mobile platforms are necessary.  It also requires proven ability to diagnose and resolve problems associated with all technological facets in the newsroom.


The news operations manager will work closely with our Technology/IT department and Assignment Desk. This position will oversee ENG, SNG, and LiveU newsgathering as well as work with others to manage the news fleet. This is a key management position here in the newsroom.   We are seeking a candidate with strong communication skills and someone who helps promote a positive culture in the newsroom.   


Primary responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee Assignment Desk.
  • Manage technical aspects of field newscasts and major planned coverage
  • Assist in development, implementation, and training of new and existing systems
  • Oversee with Chief Photographer to manage scheduling, training, evaluation and supervision of news photographers and editors
  • Oversee purchase supplies and minor equipment, coordinate equipment repairs and/or installation of new equipment as needed
  • Manage ENG and SNG vehicles and keep staff updated on tech and safety training
  • Manage fleet maintenance, tags, and EMKAY
  • Manage video dubbing/licensing
  • Approve time sheets
  • Any other duties as assigned by management
