WNBC is NBC Universal’s flag ship station. The Manager Field Operations is a critical part of the Technology & Operations team. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a track record in managing high quality newsgathering operations and associated technologies, specifically in News. The candidate will focus on excellence, quality and enhancing capabilities; both newsgathering technologies and enhancing the skill set of our staff.


+ Develop the overall field operation team.

+ Manage a geographically dispersed team of staff photographers and Daily Hires.

+ Evaluate and deploy new technologies, enhance workflows, maintenance of a large newsgathering fleet, SOP development, and Special events.

+ An in-depth understanding of newsgathering technologies: Bonded Cellular, KU and KA Satellite, editing technologies, (AVID desirable), Microwave, RF, Panasonic P2 workflow, internet technologies, and field safety and EHS compliance.

+ Seek opportunities to reduce costs/increase newsgathering efficiency by implementation of smart technology.

+ Staff and team development. Develop skill sets and reduce any reliance on individuals by cross training and documentation. Feedback and critique.

+ Budget responsibility and accountability. Expense control, savings and management.

+ Risk Management: Assess all issues, adds, changes in order to mitigate impact to newsgathering. Comply with EHS and regulatory guidelines.

+ Forge and foster collaborative relationships with the various teams at WNBC.


Qualifications/ Requirements

Interested candidates must submit a resume/CV through to be considered.

+ Equivalent experience or Degree, preferably in TV Production, or related field.

+ Minimum 7 years of managing mission a field operation at a TV Station: preferably in News.

+ Managing a union represented workforce. (NABET).

+ On Call 24/7/365.

+ Extensive experience in newsgathering working with newsrooms and dealing with the demands of the editorial teams.

+ In depth understanding of the New York / New Jersey market.

+ In depth knowledge of existing and evolving newsgathering technologies.

+ Exceptional Interpersonal & communication skills with ability to interface with all levels of management & user community.Eligibility Requirements

+ Must be willing to work at 30 Rock in NYC (twice minimum per week/as needed) and in Fort Lee, NJ (home base) location.

+ Must be 18 years or greater.

+ Former Photographer is desirable.

+ Must have ability to work flexible hours when needed.
