Are you someone who obsesses over how news can better engage audience with meaningful visuals? NBC News Digital is seeking a talented visual editor to bring our news verticals to life across all digital platforms from web to mobile and social.

This is a job at the forefront of journalism’s digital future and the ideal candidate is creative, innovative and agile, with a passion for the intersection of visual journalism and technology.

Job Duties

Working with a team of editors, reporters and visual journalists, you will program and manage the look and feel of NBC’s three News Verticals: MACH, Better and Think. MACH focuses on science and technology. Better focuses on health and personal finance. Think focuses on news and politics opinion.

The ideal candidate will coordinate, plan and edit across formats to combine text, photos, video, interactives and audio to ensure the verticals’ top stories are visually rich. When necessary, you will create unique photo illustrations and infographics.

The candidate must be able to handle projects from start to finish from breaking news to long-term packages. They should have superior design and technical skills, expertise working as a web designer and a track record of conceptualizing and implementing creative digital projects. Other responsibilities include templates and training.


Basic Qualifications

+ 2+ years UI/UX experiences in digital media

+ 2+ years designing and art direction web and mobile sites

+ Experience in digital design theories including but not limited to typography, responsive web design and color theory

+ Experience in modern Web design technologies (HTML & CSS)

+ Experience in Adobe Creative Suite

+ Ability to execute creative plans, wireframes, navigation flows, and style guides.Additional Job Requirements

+ Degree or equivalent experience

+ Audio and video editing skills a plus

+ Familiar in modern web technologies (Javascript, JQuery & d3)

+ Project management skills

+ Team player with excellent collaborative skills

+ Ability to work on deadline and under pressure on multiple projects
