Job Description

KCCI-TV, the Hearst Television station in Des Moines, has a rare opening for a full-time news photographer.  Our award-winning photography staff values creativity and outstanding visual story-telling skills.  KCCI is a multi-year winner of the National Press Photographers Association Station of the Year award.  The ideal candidate will have several years’ experience shooting and editing news video.  Applicants should submit a demo reel that shows the ability to think visually and bring the day’s news events home to our viewers.  Candidates must be able to work under deadline pressure and work well with other staff members.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Shooting news video that meets our standards for lighting, framing, composition and sequencing.
  • Working with reporters in the field to collectively produce a well-told visual story
  • Edit news video under deadline pressure on a non-linear edit system
  • Experience setting up live shots both through microwave vans and bonded cellular technology

Required Skills

  • A college degree in journalism or communications preferred
  • Experience shooting and editing news videography
  • Physical ability to carry cameras, tripods and other photographer equipment as needed
  • A clean driving record and an ability to drive our company vehicles in a safe manner
