Position Summary

The Reporter will create and distribute social media content to promote editorial content, and serve as digital evangelist for the features and newsroom staff. 

Responsibilities:

  • Research, write, and produce local-focused content that grows and engages new online audiences
  • Produce daily at least 2 to 3 pieces of online content for AJC.com and/or AccessAtlanta.com
  • Serve as newsroom aficionado and expert on events, festivals, and things to do in the Atlanta-metro area
  • Meet monthly and yearly pageview goals by producing relevant, engaging online content on AJC.com; monitor online traffic and drive user engagement to stories
  • Create and add video, photos, and other multimedia elements to optimize each story
  • Write, update, and distribute daily social media content for living team, and when needed, for dining; manage and program Twitter and Facebook for weekdays and weekends

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism or communications, or equivalent in experience.
Experience
  • Minimum 2-5 years experience researching, reporting, and writing for digital newsrooms or online publications
  • Strong working knowledge of social media and microblogging platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; previous experience with Social Flow a plus
  • Familiarity with blogging software and strong understanding of a
  • CMS
  • Ability to newsgather in a fast-paced, digital, deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrated skills with data interpretation, using metrics and analytics systems such as Google Analytics, Chartbeat, and Crowdtangle
  • Strong knowledge of best practices for online content, search engine optimization, and audience engagement
  • Unmatched commitment to meeting individual and newsroom-wide metric goals
  • Demonstrated diverse journalism skill set, including strengths in online, social, breaking news, and print content. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
