NBC News MACH is a section of that’s dedicated to telling stories (text and video) about the scientific discoveries and technological innovations that are transforming our lives. Our aim is to tell stories in a way that is accessible to a general audience.

We’re looking for an editor who can edit, write, and curate stories—someone who loves science and technology and who has the creativity and editorial skills to share their love with readers no matter what the format. You need to be very organized and able to work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced digital newsroom. The position reports to MACH’s editorial director.

Job Duties

+ Coming up with MACH-worthy story ideas for text and video pieces

+ Assigning stories and working with freelancers to hone them

+ Line-editing and proofing stories, and being the last pair of eyes on all content

+ Working with in-house design and photography departments to produce journalism that sets our stories apart from the competition

+ Loading articles into our content-management system

+ Doing original reporting and writing pieces

+ Promoting posts internally and on MACH’s social media accounts to drive awareness and cultivate loyalty

+ Using metrics and audience data to optimize content consumption

+ Ensuring writers’ needs are met and fostering relationships


Basic Qualifications

+ At least five years of relevant experience doing digital science/tech writing/editing for a major editorial outlet

+ Bachelor’s degree

+ Familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms as tools for promoting editorial content and interacting with readersAdditional Job Requirements
