Electronics/Animation Techs (Ride & Show Controls) at Universal Orlando are responsible for:

+ Performing daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual inspections and preventative maintenance towards R/S control systems. Inspections include testing, verification and/or calibration of applicable control systems.

+ Identifying system deficiencies and recommending immediate and long-term corrective action to decrease maintenance costs and decrease downtimes of ride vehicles. This involves researching defective mechanically-controlled items/parts, instructional information to complete the repair process when needed, referring to technical manuals, technical library, and the CMMS system while utilizing a systematic approach.

+ Logging completion of inspections, corrective action, and/or repairs made and listing applicable parts used.

+ Performing modifications to ride vehicles or show equipment as directed by the Universal engineering department.

+ Responding to downtimes and show element quality repair related issues and ride recovery related issues.

+ Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policies, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.

+ Performing other duties as assigned.


To perform the role of an Electronics/Animation Tech (Ride & Show Controls) successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

+ Consistent attendance is a job requirement.

+ High school degree or GED required. Electronic or electrical degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.

+ Three to five years experience in troubleshooting and repair of complex analog/digital electronic machinery/control systems including hydraulic/pneumatic sensors and operated machinery in electrical hydraulic/pneumatic control systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ Valid Florida Driver’s License is required to operate company vehicles.

+ Must regularly lift 25 pounds, frequently lift 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

+ Ability to write simple correspondence.

+ Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

+ Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

+ Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

+ Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

+ While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; frequently required to walk, talk or hear; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, taste or smell.

+ Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close Vision; Distance Vision; Color Vision; Peripheral Vision; Depth Perception; Ability to Adjust Focus.

+ While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to work at heights greater than 4 feet (up to 200ft), work with cranes, work with pyrotechnics/explosives, and perform maintenance or servicing powerized (energized) equipment (pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical).

+ While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to work with waste oils/fuels, batteries, fluorescent lamps and aerosols (spray paints, brake cleaner).

+ While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to use an Extendable Boom Forklift (Lull), Forklift (sit down, stand-up, or motorized pallet jacks), Highreach (Aerial lift) and golf cart.

+ While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock, frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat (non-weather), and occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions (non-weather); work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold (non-weather); work with explosives; vibration.
