**Responsibilities**

NBCUniversal’s Engineering team within the Operations & Technology organization has an opening for an experienced media technology leader as the Vice President of Distribution Engineering. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Engineering, this position is responsible for managing and developing the technology and infrastructure supporting on-air operations based in 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Englewood Cliffs, NJ and Centennial, CO. The Vice President Distribution Engineering will work with operations groups and existing engineering teams to drive technology change and help define and implement the strategic vision.



• Direct and manage the engineering teams that provide 24/7 support of on-air operations in 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Englewood Cliffs, NJ and Centennial, CO

• Responsible for maintaining 99.999% reliability for all on-air operations

• Support process improvements and tracking/targeting of system defects to maintain and improve reliability and stability of operations

• Champion and develop long term best practice network infrastructure, data center and security objectives

• Effectively communicate strategy, goals and expectations among executive management, clients and working teams to maintain 99.999% uptime and reliability of a global network infrastructure, cloud initiatives and multi-tenant data centers

• Manage project finances, capital planning, report on engineering progress and execute primary project initiatives

• Provide strategic vision and execution for continued business in key areas such as asset management, editing workflows, media acquisition, media file transcoding, file based distribution and production automation systems development

• Work with other technology teams to implement solutions that ensure technical process and standardization and are consistent with NBCUniversal operational goals

• Monitor industry trends and provide direction in product and technology selections

• Own and enable programs for vendor relationship building, tool creation and monitoring strategies for on-air network infrastructure, storage infrastructure, compute platforms, automation, and software development

• Recruit, manage and develop technology staff as required

• Work closely with other technology and technical teams to develop understanding of production strategies and processes

**Qualifications/Requirements**

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science and 10+ years engineering & technology experience from the TV, cable or media industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

• CCNA or MCSE

• Strong knowledge of file based work flow systems

• Proven ability to lead 24/7 support of a large operation with defined escalation processes and procedures; Proven ability to manage multiple, urgent priorities simultaneously

• Strong understanding of digital workflows and Transcoding systems

• Detailed knowledge of master control technologies, workflows and uplink systems

• Strong understanding of video servers, IP based infrastructures and software automation systems

• Strong understanding of video, audio and ancillary data protocols and technologies

• Strong understanding of satellite transmission systems including RF, encryption and encoding platforms

• Strong understanding of media prep systems, SAN architecture, Storenex, and LTOs

• Strong understanding of network infrastructure, topologies and protocols

• Demonstrated ability to analyze, compile and deliver regular clear, concise reports detailing system performance and reliability

• Strong leadership, people management and communications skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, ranging from non-technical senior leadership executives to engineering professionals, software developers and operations staff

• Strong financial planning and tracking skills
