**Responsibilities**

The Vice President, New Technology will work with Universal Pictures’ business and technical stakeholders to identify and execute on a wide ranging set of innovative technology-enabled opportunities. The candidate will also partner closely with various stakeholders to formulate and execute on the Company’s content protection strategy. The candidate will drive Universal Pictures’ technology agenda internally and externally, through productive and lasting partnerships, including leading the Studio’s industry standards activities. The Vice President, New Technology will report to the Universal Pictures’ Chief Technology Officer.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



• Research emerging technologies and play an industry-leading role in next-generation formats, platforms, and services, which will impact Universal Pictures’ existing and future business

• Represent Universal Pictures’ agenda in industry conversations, including relevant industry and technology-related boards, consortia, and standards bodies

• Collaboratively develop, gain consensus, and implement technology roadmaps for Universal Pictures in media technologies such as metadata, content workflow, and distribution platforms, media formats, and analytics

• Effectively articulate complicated technology issues and advise Universal Pictures’ leadership and key stakeholders on business implications of technology developments and trends

• Lead a team of high caliber industry leading technologists

**Qualifications/Requirements**

• Minimum 10 years of experience in the technology and media space

• Minimum 5 years of experience as an architect, including at least 4 years of experience in an enterprise architecture role

**Desired Characteristics**

• Experience in technology standards activities

• Recognized and respected innovator in the media and entertainment sector

• Experience working closely with marketing, business and legal executives

• Technical and business understanding of OTT, Cable and Satellite Television systems

• Understanding of video compression and transcoding technologies

• Understanding of color science as related to content production, distribution and rendering

• Internet distribution technologies and systems

• Broadband networking and transmission technologies such as IP, MPEG2TS, QAM

• Home networking technologies and their evolution and adoption

• Content security methods such as DRM, Conditional Access, and various anti-piracy techniques

• Demonstrated success managing teams

• Demonstrated success implementing large scale consumer platforms in a matrixed environment

• Experience working closely with marketing, business, and legal executives, as well as ability to partner with third party companies and vendors successfully

• Experience negotiating complex technology agreements

• Degree in engineering, computer science or related field, or equivalent experience
