Job Title: Multi Media Videographer/First Responder-Part Time
The Multi Media Videographer/First Responder is an experienced news gatherer, a news hound, who must be nimble, flexible and quick-thinking. The Videographer/First Responder strives to be the first to safely arrive on the scene of breaking news—and is expected to obtain information, interviews, compelling visuals (video and stills), as well as audio for use on television, in print, on radio, on digital and in social media. The Videographer/First Responder must possess the ability to quickly assess a situation and relay that information to the Breaking News Team as they gather content.  The Videographer/First Responder must be a multi-tasker  with a keen sense of urgency required to meet the peak times and deadlines of all platforms. The Videographer/First Responder must not only be able to use multiple technology tools, programs and apps to gather and provide: radio phoners/audio interviews, quick cell phone photos, print-quality photographs, cell video for digital, live video and broadcast quality video for live television newscasts.


  • Prefer at least one year of professional news videography and/or photography experience
  • Displays a strong sense of urgency, high energy and tenacity to report on breaking news.
  • Displays ability to remain calm while working under pressure; the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously to meet the needs of platforms.
  • Ability to work any hours on this 24-7 team, including overnights and weekends, days and evenings
  • Develops and nurtures important sources quickly, building relationships that result in scoops.
  • Excellent news judgment, ability to assess a breaking news scene quickly, communicate details with desk.
  • Works closely with breaking news staff to respond to assignments, but will often be self-directed.
  • Uses time effectively and efficiently, meets deadlines, produces a volume of work for all platforms.
  • Is flexible in shift starting times and work locations.
  • Demonstrates ability to use technology—Live U, editing apps, live streams for TV/digital, professional TV video camera, DSLR camera, 360-degree camera, smartphone, hand-held scanner, IFB communication technology, GPS and paper maps to navigate scenes quickly.
  • Geographical knowledge of Dayton streets and Montgomery, Greene, Clark, Preble, Darke, Champaign, Logan, Shelby, Mercer, Miami, Auglaize, Warren, Clinton and Wayne (Ind.) counties.
  • Possesses basic understanding of police procedure in Ohio.
  • Possesses understanding of access and libel laws in Ohio.
  • Possesses basic photography/videography skills or ability to learn them quickly.
  • Collaborates effectively with others and communicates in a friendly, productive manner
  • Handles other assignments as needed, showing flexibility and adaptability.
  • Understands traffic laws and the need to exercise safety in responding to any news scene.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or 1-3 years of professional media experience preferred.
  • Requirements may change over time depending on technology and company priorities.
