The Vice President of Master Planning and Design is responsible for defining a compelling, feasible, inspiring and actionable vision for the physical environment in which NBCU employees work. She / he will research, analyze, document and realize a wide range of specific real estate and development projects and manage planning and design activities across the NBCU’s owned and leased portfolio with a particular focus on master planning, building and interior design. This responsibility includes managing and coordinating efforts with others responsible for design-related activities, including internal Business Units and Corporate partners, as well as third-party consultants, contractors and vendors who are hired to support each initiative.

This position will report to the Global Real Estate Senior Vice President of Design and Delivery, will oversee planning and design from inception to completion and work collaboratively with the GRE Pre-Development and Transaction teams. GRE relies upon external project-specific resources to execute projects; the VP should be well connected to these resources and comfortable with an operating approach that strongly leverages external talent.


+ Partner with GRE Pre-Development, Transactions and Finance teams, internal Business Units, Corporate stakeholders and in some cases, the surrounding community, to define long range master plans for the company’s key business hubs that become the development template for adding new or transforming and optimizing the company’s real estate assets

+ Planning responsibilities include site and facilities assessment, site programming and planning, definition of development and landscape strategies and options, selection, development and documentation of a preferred option, conceptual cost, schedule and feasibility assessment, and phasing approaches

+ Deliver plans that are living documents that accommodate the constantly evolving nature of NBCU’s business

+ Based on defined master plans or real estate strategies, lead design and documentation of enhancement, redevelopment or new buildings and area development to support the needs of the company’s Business Units

+ Develop and implement a seamless design and delivery process: selecting and hiring multi-disciplinary project teams, leading design efforts through all phases of the project including programming, concept design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration and post occupancy tenant support

+ Coordinate design, documentation and realization efforts with other GRE leaders, internal Business Unit and Corporate stakeholders, and the wide range of external local agencies that must review and approved design projects

+ Lead the evolution of NBCU’s workplace and workplace standards as they relate to projects for which GRE is responsible. With a focus on maximizing end user satisfaction and flexibility, minimizing real estate cost and maximizing efficiency and agility, the VP will work with internal and external partners to define appropriate solutions and standards for a wide ran

+ Analyze and document workplace needs, define options for meeting those needs, develop and document specific plans, supervise implementation and measure results of each effort

+ To optimize project creativity and innovation, maintain familiarity with relevant external workplace trends, design talent, manufacturers of workplace systems and furniture

+ Interact with countless GRE, internal and external stakeholders and must have strong relationship building and communication skills to manage the wide range of competing priorities inherent in a large and complex media and entertainment company

+ Establish strong working relationships with the Business Units she / he serves and be able to comfortably strike the balance between enabler and enforcer


Basic Qualifications

+ BA and/or Masters Degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design or related field

+ 15+ years of Planning and Design experience with demonstrated success

+ Proven track record leading master planning efforts that that have been implemented and that incorporate inputs from parallel entitlements, government approvals and community outreach efforts

+ Proven track record designing and delivering a wide range of building projects consistent with the needs of a modern and evolving media and entertainment company

+ Proven experience delivering state-of-the-art workplaces for a diverse group of workers in an evolving media or high tech company

+ Proven experience managing a wide and diverse portfolio of planning and design projects, from small refresh and enhancement efforts to major new master plans or buildings

+ Proven and established relationships with the planning and design industries, including external consultants, workplace product representatives, furniture dealerships, and fabricators

+ Proven experience leading a planning and design team with an innovative and fresh but practical and cost effective approach to delivery

+ Experience managing a large portfolio of work with a very lean internal staff and heavy reliance on external providers to deliver high quality and timely work product

+ Excellent graphics capabilities; initiatives must be presented in a manner that addresses the needs of those who are in the know about planning and design as effectively as it does for those who know little about GRE’s business
