Do you have a passion for television AND a deep knowledge of social media? Up to speed on the latest and most disruptive ways to grab audiences’ attention and increase engagement on multiple social platforms? Are you an expert at reviewing social data and using it to optimize performance? A fan of science fiction? NBCU has an extraordinary opportunity to oversee the strategy, development and execution of innovative social campaigns for two premiere cable networks: USA and SYFY plus SYFY WIRE, the channel’s news organization. We are looking for a strategic, yet hands-on Vice President of Social Media and Audience Engagement to join the brand marketing team and drive social programs that challenge current conceptions of how social media can be used as both a marketing and storytelling platform. He or she will lead all social media channels, campaigns, team members, outside agencies and partners, to sustain an engaging audience experience and increase audience satisfaction.

Successful candidate will be dynamic, motivated and personify innovation. Strong focus on delivering key business metrics that service both platform performance and overall business and channel objectives. Analyze all available data and make timely strategic and tactical recommendations based on insights. This position will report to SVP, Brand Marketing, Cable Entertainment.


•Serve as face of the company for external digital agencies and partners to consistently provide best-in-class strategic recommendations, solutions, and first-to-market opportunities to position USA and SYFY as the social leader to consumers and advertisers alike

•Responsible for optimizing and scaling fan engagement around SYFY WIRE (SYFY’s new online destination for genre news)

•Oversees audience engagement across all platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram , Twitter, Snapchat, etc.

•Develop and deliver social strategy against brand and programming initiatives, derived from insights and performance metrics

•Oversee internal and external teams that execute community management and are responsible for audience engagement

•Lead strategic partnerships in the social space from identification of relevant partners through oversight of the execution of these programs

•Guide and contribute in the development of creative ideas and executions

•Oversee paid media and measurement analytics in both social and digital

•Contribute to the development of creative ideas and executions to achieve KPIs based on channel goals

•Collaborate with leaders of other departments (Creative, Production, Analytics/Insights, Media & Digital)

•Oversee social audience development campaigns for USA and SYFY properties, ensuring both paid and organic traffic growth

•Develop and pitch social-first monetization opportunities in tandem with Ad Sales group to create revenue opportunities that support multiplatform deals

•Work in tandem with press to disseminate key messages to our followers and foster relationships with talent and showrunners as appropriate

•Align with the research team and provide regular and timely reporting regarding viewer sentiment and chatter in the digital ether, as well as general trends germane to our business

•Represent USA and SYFY as social experts in a larger corporate context (i.e. at NBCU Digital Marketing Council)


Basic Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s Degree

•Minimum 10 years relevant experience working within the social/digital, technology media space

•Deep knowledge of primary social platforms (i.e. Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and new and emerging technologies and their benefits to businesses, particularly entertainment

•Advanced written and communication/presentation skills

•Be well-versed in various paid media and measurement analytics in both social and digital

•Proven understanding and expertise in brand strategy

•Experience managing high-functioning teams
